emaus walk bulletin: 21 July

Dear Walkers,

Half the week's gone again! Instead of a lame joke this week, i've got something to share (for once...)

i've been spending my weekdays in green since last week at ICT, and something struck me during a dialogue with a Brigadier-General yesterday. We were asked to introduce ourselves and, for the NS men, our civilian jobs. i said, "In real life, i teach math at CJC." In real life. What does it imply about the reality/non-reality of the SAF? i hope that our faith journey is something that we do as part of our 'real life'. It is all too easy to allocate God a couple of hours a week at Sunday Mass, and then live the rest of the week as if our time spent in church is an 'alternate reality'. Imagine one saying, "I may be in church now, but in real life, i don't do this kind of stuff." Hmmm...

Last Week in CG

We continued with part 3 of our theme on Christian Service. The reading was Luke 10:38-42, on the story of Martha and Mary. We see both sisters serving the Lord in very different ways: Martha by fluttering around with the chores, and Mary by listening to what Jesus had to say. Mary has chosen the better part, but it doesn't mean Martha was wrong: it's a reminder to us that we can be doing a lot of things, purportedly in service of the Lord, but if we don't stop to listen to what He has to say to us first, whatever we do might be in vain.

This Week in CG

We need to base our Christian Service on a solid foundation, and prayer is the foundation we should aim to build. Join us as we reflect on this Sunday's Gospel! *IMPT We will start at 7:45 sharp. In place of our usual PnW, for a change, we will be having meditative prayer with songs of Taize, and incorporating our reading and reflection time into this . Please be punctual so as not to disrupt the mood for quiet prayer!*

Other Announcements
1. Youth Night (24 July, 6:30pm) & Youth Mass (31 July, 6:30pm)
Join our youths in these two events and get to know them better! Inspire them and be inspired by them!

2. Parish Feastday Foodstall

Last year's Walkers' Cafe was a great success so we hope to do something like this again. To help with the organising, contact Elaine or Kenneth!

3. Bread Run (Wednesdays)
Bread Run continues, and Dominic Tan is back with us to help organise it! Just nice, as Aloy Chua prepares to head to the US for his exchange programme... Do help if you can, it is a truly humbling and enriching experience! The organisers send out an email every Mon or Tuesday so do look out for it!

4. Diocesan Vocation Recollection (13-14 August)

For the brothers! For more information, ask Bro Samuel Lim or see contacts in the attachment.

5. New CG groupings from Sun 8 August

As is customary by now, and to ensure the EW community mingles better, the Exco has reshuffled the groupings again, and they start from Sun 8 August. We'll let you know the groupings during CG itself.

*By the way, this email has the latest email address list, so please use this list if you are sending an email to the EW cmmunity.*

Ok that is all from me, have a great week ahead and see you all on Sunday!

In His Love,
barry
