emmaus walk bulletin: 02 June

Dear all Walkers,

Last Sunday in CG
In part 3 of our 5-part series on Salvation History, Fr Kenson touched on Covenants.

A Covenant is a solemn agreement between parties to engage in, or refrain from, a specific action. In the religious context, it refers to sacred agreements between God and Man. God makes specific demands and promises, in order to allow Man to exercise free will and choose to accept or reject the covenants. In a covenant, there is a sign that represents the covenant (e.g. a rainbow for Noah), and usually a sacrifice involved. In the Old Testament, there are 5 covenants: Adamic, Noahite, Abrahamic, Mosaic and Davidic.

The prophet Jeremiah foretells a new covenant that God will make, with "the house of Israel and the house of Judah", i.e. not just for the Jews. In this new covenant, Jesus as God makes the covenant, and Jesus as Man fulfills the demands of the covenant through his sacrifice of obedience. The Eucharist is the permanent sign of that covenant, and the sacrifice offered is his sacrifice of obedience.

How serious are we about partaking in the Eucharist as the way to renew this covenant with God?

This Sunday in CG
We will be moving into Part 4: The Exile. Come and join us and enrich your understanding! Don't worry if you have missed out on all 3 sessions even, it's okay and each session is comprehensible on its own!
