emmaus walk bulletin: 26 Jan

Dear all Walkers,

There was this case in a hospital's intensive care ward where patients always died in the same bed and always on Friday mornings, regardless of their medical conditions.
This puzzled the doctors and some even thought that it had to do with the supernatural. So the doctors decided to go down to that particular ward to investigate the cause.
Come Friday morning, everyone at the hospital ward nervously waited for the terrible phenomenon to occur again. Some held wooden crosses, prayer books and other holy objects to ward off evil...
As the time approached, their hearts began beating anxiously, and with every beat of the clock, everyone held their breath... Then Ah Soh, the part-time Friday cleaner, came into the room and unplugged the life support system so that she could use the vacuum cleaner.

Last Sunday in CG
Jesus is the Light of the world. He shines brightly and shows us the way to the Father. As Teacher and Master, he could not carry out his work on his own, hence he called disciples to help him, after instructing them in his ways. Today, he is calling us to be his disciples and carry on his work, to be light for others. The first disciples left behind their means of livelihood (fishing nets, boats) to follow him. What are the things we need to leave behind in order to follow him?

This Sunday in CG
We will be having our elections to choose the next committee to serve the community. Please pray for the entire process! For more details, refer to the ELECTION SUPPLEMENTwhich was sent out last week, or you can click here if you have deleted it ( a big :( to you in that case...)

We will also be having an adoration session on Thursday 27 Jan at the Prayer Room, 9:30-10:30pm, for the intentions of Elections and Project Sunshine. Especially for those discerning to be nominated for elections, do join us for an hour of prayer and silent reflection!
Attached to this email are also articles contributed by Sister Jessica. If you are discerning as to whether you wish to serve the EW community, it is worthwhile to take a look at the articles.

Birthday Boy!!!
Let us now wish our beloved Fr Henry a very happy birthday! Don't ask how old he is, ask how young he is! May the Good Lord bless him with much joy and happiness!

Announcements
1) Breadrun - Wed 26 Jan, 9:30pm
This will be the last Breadrun for a couple of months, until the university holidays return. Do come and support this if you don't have to work early or have lessons early the next day. Or even if you are not able to help, but are free at 9:30pm, come join the team in the prayer session! Pray with them and ask God to keep them safe and humble along the way.

2) Project Sunshine - Sat 29 Jan, 8am-5pm
We're on for this! Many thanks to those who have volunteered your time to help. We start at the Prayer Room with a prayer session, and then we'll set off. If you are unable to be present, you have a great role to pray for this project: a) for the families living in the houses we are cleaning, that they will be blessed with continued support and help for their needs; and b) for the volunteers, that they reflect the love of Christ in their work.

3) RCIY
In preparation for the first RCIY batch in June, Fr Henry is looking for sponsors/facilitators to journey with the RCIY-ers. Remember that you, who have been baptised, are called to be the light of the world, and hence if you are willing to shine your light for others, do let Barry know. Don't take too long to think, as we need to confirm the people helping out by mid-February!

4) EYR 2011 Committee
Join the team that makes EYR happen (with the grace of God) and reach out to the youths of the parish! If you wish to serve, contact Elaine or Barry.

5) Chingay Carnival @ Hougang Mall - 13 Feb, 3 - 10pm
Our youths are helping to run 2 stalls at this event, and they need help with manpower. If you are free between 2-5pm, do go and lend them a hand. (Note: EW CG continues at the usual time).

6) 40-hour Eucharistic adoration / devotion (24 - 26 Jun)
Help Ben and Jerry with this! They will give you ice cream. Or not. For more information, look for them!

Ok that is all from me, do read the ELECTION SUPPLEMENT carefully and see you on Sunday!

In His Love,
barry
